GAMBIT: New 4-Player Game Mode
The Rising Empire Studios Team is thrilled to unveil our latest Alpha Clash TCG format: Gambit! This dynamic 4-player game mode challenges participants to leverage both their technical and social skills to claim victory. Perfect for your next game night at the local game store (LGS) or around the kitchen table, Gambit strikes the ideal balance between fun, competitiveness, and chaos.
What is Gambit?
In Gambit, players adhere to standard deckbuilding restrictions for Constructed play. Portal control and manipulation become central to your strategy, creating an experience reminiscent of the intricate challenges faced by Alphas. Social interaction and tactical decision-making are key to navigating this thrilling format. Here’s a summary of the basic rules:
Deckbuilding: Players follow standard Constructed deckbuilding rules.
Attack Restrictions: Players can only attack a Contender or Clash card controlled by another player if the Portal between them is open.
Clashground Replacement: A Clashground is replaced only if it would enter play while the Portal to a player currently controlling a Clashground is open.
Portal Activation: A player may pay resources to activate only one Portal per turn.
Portal Layout: Five Portals are in play:
Portals connect each player to their front and side opponents.
A central Portal links players diagonal from each other.
Portals start the game closed.
If a Portal is activated while an effect is in standby targeting a player or their cards, the effect no longer applies.
If a player declares an attack but the Portal closes before damage resolves, the attack is negated.
An effect that is based on the status of the Portal is considered open or closed for a player if the majority of their connected Portals are in that state.
End-of-Round Roll: At the end of each table rotation, one player rolls a d6:
o The corresponding Portal and player connection activates.
o Rolling a 6 opens all Portals.
A Living, Community-Driven Format
Gambit is designed to evolve with the community. Rules may be adjusted over time to reflect player feedback and ensure the format’s continued enjoyment and balance.
