Card Errata Update: Sept. 2024

Card Erratas are cards that have had their original printed text changed due to misprints, or to clarify wording. The wording following “After” is applied to all game formats and takes precedence over the original printed wording of the card. We here at Rising Empire Studios sincerely apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this may cause.

  • AC3-049 Whistler

Since Lvl Up Vegas, we’ve been watching the performance of Whistler in its ability to directly manipulate gameplay. We do believe there is a benefit to Whistler providing the opportunity to an opponent to create a circumstance that breaks the obligation to attack, whether readying the obliged target to attack, or creating a circumstance of engagement for the obligatory attacker.

The addition of targeting your Clash card is to tie the trigger and the resolution to the attached, attacking Clash card at the time of attack. This can open opportunities where if the weapon is no longer attached, or no longer in play, the opponent’s Clash card is not obligated to attack.

With this new intention, we want to also create some FAC clarifications: the card that triggers the effect of Whistler is the card that retains the trigger. The effect does not follow the weapon, were you to reattach it elsewhere. Whichever clash card that attacked holds the delayed trigger effect until a time that the obligatory action can or cannot be followed through. Lastly, the Clash card that must attack is no longer required to be the first action taken for the turn. An opponent may play throughout their Primary phase and interact to disrupt the effect. Before the player passes turn, if both cards targeted by Whistler are legal targets between attacker and defender, the obligation must be met.

Before:

Whenever the attached Clash card attacks, you may engage this card. If you do, choose target Clash card you don't control. Until your next turn, that Clash card must attack the attached Clash card if able.

After:

Whenever the attached Clash card attacks, you may engage this card. If you do, choose target Clash card you don't control. Until your next turn, that Clash card must attack target attached Clash card if able.

  • ST3-007 Warcry, Faithful Protector

To remain open and transparent, the exhaust mechanic from a very early standpoint in playtesting remained convoluted to whether it was intended to exist as a punishment or a cost. After months of rules updates, it became apparent that Faithful Protector (as written) outperformed the baseline expectations assumed of it from playtesting. As a result, it has ended up in a position where the exhaust mechanic is available to the card every turn.

The original intent of any card that can be exhausted, whether beneficial or regarded as a punishment to an opponent, has redeemed that transaction every other turn.

To update a card to this standard, Warcry, Faithful Protector will now require the Clash card to engage in addition to its exhaust requirements

Before:

Counter - Attack: After an opponent declares an attack, you may exhaust this card…

After:

Counter - Attack: After an opponent declares an attack, you may engage and exhaust this card…

  • ST3-009 Guardian’s Defense

For consistency, Guardian’s Defense also gets the same update to match intent with gameplay.

Before:

Counter - Play: Exhaust attached Clash card. If you do, target Clash card you don't control can't attack this turn.

After:

Counter - Play: Engage and exhaust attached Clash card. If you do, target Clash card you don't control can't attack this turn.
